Subaru BRZ Air Intakes

This page contains Subaru BRZ cold air intakes, short ram intake and air filters by industry leading manufacturers including AEM, K&N and Injen. The Subaru BRZ comes with a stock air box designed to minimize intake noise which also restricts air flow to the engine. An aftermarket air intake is designed to free up air flow as well as keep the air cooler for racing or high performance use. Several air intake designs are currently in development for the Subaru BRZ at this time, please join our Facebook page for the most up to date info.

Subaru BRZ Stock Air Intake Box

Subaru Air Intakes

Above you can see a photo of a stock air box of a Subaru BRZ. This part is designed to bring cool air in from the front bumper, filter it and then send it into the internal combustion engine. The stock air box is quite restrictive when compared to an aftermarket design, the purpose being to keep the engine as quite as possible and safe from the elements such as hard rain or debris while still allowing air into the engine. Air intakes are the most common and basic performance modification because of ease of installation, improved performance and engine sound as well as improved fuel efficiency. An air intake system provides the highest horsepower per dollar of any modification and is usually the first one done on a vehicle.

In the photo above, you can see a Subaru WRX engine bay with a cold air intake that has replaced the stock air box. There are two main types of after market intake systems, cold air intakes and short ram intakes. Both allow more air into the engine for better performance, the difference is a short ram air intake is housed within the engine bay and a cold air intake routes a pipe down into the bumper in order to get the coolest air possible.

Several manufacturers including K&N, Injen and AEM are looking for Subaru BRZ vehicles to prototype new products on. Please check out the links at the bottom of this page for more information.
